The game soundtrack Echoes of War: 战争的回响, produced entirely by Australia’s Eminence Symphony Orchestra, collects the full orchestral renditions of music from Blizzard’s blockbusters Warcraft III, World of Warcraft, and Diablo III, and is now available for online order.
The idea came from the World of Warcraft tracks previously sold on iTunes, which unexpectedly won the support and purchases of many players. Players said that music is an important form of leisure in many people’s lives, and that being able to buy it openly let them listen to World of Warcraft music on their commute to and from work — until they got home and couldn’t wait to turn on the computer, log into World of Warcraft, and set off on their own epic journey.
“We want to bring the music out of the game and into people’s hearts, so they can listen closely — without the clang of swords from conflict, and without the splatter of corpses and ghosts,” says Hiroaki Yura, founder of the Eminence Symphony Orchestra. “We hope to add a lot of our own character to the game music. Because Blizzard’s music is just so classic, we’re being very careful as we go about adding that character,” Hiroaki Yura continued.
With the release of Echoes of War: 战争的回响, two versions are now on sale online: the standard edition and the legendary collector’s edition. The standard edition includes not only Diablo (a guitar-arranged version of the theme is included too), StarCraft, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, but also tracks from the yet-to-be-released StarCraft II: Trilogy, Diablo III, and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.
In addition, the legendary collector’s edition comes with an extra DVD featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the making of Echoes of War: 战争的回响, Japanese composer Kow Otani discussing Diablo III, plus a 32-page color booklet and nine exclusive postcards — 15 tracks in total, over 90 minutes of great value.
Echoes of War: 战争的回响 went on sale in November 2008, with the standard edition priced at $29.95 and the legendary collector’s edition at $49.95.
