Since the site was last hacked (2008-12-12), it has been showing “I will be back!”. After dragging on for so long, over the weekend of February 14–15, 2009, I stayed up all night to bring back http://www.mousebomb.org/2007/, the personal site I once took such pride in.
The 2007 version had an IIS+ASP back end. Now I’ve moved it onto a LAMP server, and to keep the changes to a minimum, I rewrote the back end in PHP. Rewriting the code felt like reading my past self — as I edited, I kept marveling at how green I was back in ‘07.
For the new site I tried out two different approaches, and scrapped them both — even though I felt that both the technical framework and the interface design were a big improvement on the 2007 version, they still weren’t enough to capture the spirit I was after.
Don’t worry, the new version will come eventually. I’ve decided I’d rather have nothing than something shoddy, and I’ll wrap the new site in the most spectacular lineup I can imagine!
