According to official news: the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV will go on sale in North America on November 18, while the European release date is November 21.
Back in the SA era, the whole Grand Theft Auto experience leveled up a notch. Tons of hardcore, offbeat playstyles popped up. I remember watching “Grand Theft Auto Multiplayer Blockbuster Series: Deadly Flight” — haha, the plot rips off Con Air. I am very very very very very very very very very very much looking forward to the new GTA — GTA4. Oh yeah — my rig can barely keep up…
The fourth game is way more realistic:
- Hand-to-hand combat is genuinely hard. Don’t go picking fights in the street if you don’t have a gun. One time I attacked a woman and three guys came to her rescue and beat me to death. 2. I’ve been flung out through the windshield on impact in a crash more than once. 3. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to the gamepad, but the cars are harder to drive this time — more realistic. 4. Motorcycles are seriously dangerous. One time I crashed and NIKO flew a whole street’s length, then hit the ground and splattered blood everywhere… 5. Always watch for cars when you cross the road! Otherwise 8 out of 10 will hit you — they just can’t brake in time. Once, during a mission, I ran out onto the road to find a car and an NPC following me got hit and killed by a car. Mission failed. 6. Getting a hooker works the same as in the previous games, but this time there are three services at different prices, and you can see the actual action inside the car! 7. The cops are seriously persistent. One mission ended with me having to break out of a building while at 3 stars. Total headache. 8. Once I got into a fight on the street and jumped into a car to run. I floored it just as the guy was opening my door, and he ended up hanging onto the door handle, getting dragged along. Thinking fast, I swerved past an oncoming car — there was a bang, a cloud of blood, and the guy was gone… 9. After you shoot a driver dead from outside the car, the windshield gets covered in blood and the driver’s head presses down on the horn, which blares on and on… 10. This time, when a car is badly damaged it usually just stalls, but once my car shot flames out from both sides of the rear wheels and then exploded… 11. The explosion effects for grenades and rocket launchers are gorgeous. Once my rocket exploded behind an enemy and he flew toward me, sailed right past me, with chunks of brick and stone landing behind me. 12. When you drive across the big bridge you have to queue up and pay at the toll booth. Run through it and you get 1 star… 13. After stealing a police car, logging into the police database from the onboard computer is a really creative touch. 14. Gunfights this time really do feel like a Hollywood blockbuster. The motion blur when you switch targets is great. Once NIKO pulled off a slick slide when switching cover. 15. Characters in the game sometimes ask NIKO out for a drink. He gets drunk every single time — staggering all over the place when walking, and driving? Don’t even mention it.

Not only did they put plenty of work into the graphics and greatly improve the realism, GTA4 also has multiplayer! See the official site. Hehe, there are several modes:
Team play: everyone on your own team is a comrade. Go to war with the other gangs!
Mode name Team Deathmatch — team deathmatch. Player count: 2-8 teams allowed. Victory condition: the team of players with the most money when the game ends wins.
Rules: Players form teams and fight other teams. You get money for killing opponents — and whatever you do, don’t forget to pick up the money they drop when they die.
Mode name Team Mafiya Work — team gang jobs. Player count: 2-8 teams allowed. Victory condition: the team of players with the most money when the game ends wins.
Rules: In the game, Kenny Petrovic calls everyone to tell them the objective (unlike single player, you don’t pull out a phone and slow-walk here — so it’s more like a broadcast).
Teams cooperate to complete gang jobs. These cover all kinds of conditions: killing people, stealing cars, delivering goods, etc. Cooperation is crucial! Several teams may go after the same target at the same time, and when that happens you have to try to kill the key target or ultimately accomplish the objective.
Mode name Team Car Jack City — team car jacking. Player count: 2-8 teams allowed. Victory condition: the team of players with the most money when the game ends wins.
Rules: Target cars respawn at several fixed locations on the map. Players need to work as a team: steal the car and drive it to the drop-off point (DROP-OFF POINT). The parking spots are usually guarded by a few NPCs, who are easy to take out.
The amount of money players get for delivering a car depends on how damaged it is. If it’s badly wrecked, you get very little. There are also special vehicles in the game, and these cars are carrying drugs (DRUGS). Handing over a car with drugs gets you $1500, regardless of how damaged the car is.
Green square: ordinary car
Green square with an arrow: car carrying drugs (all green squares show an arrow before they enter the player’s field of view; you only find out whether one really has drugs once you get close)
Yellow square: drop-off point
PS: Besides team modes, Deathmatch, Mafiya Work and Car Jack City also have solo modes with basically the same rules, except each player is their own team and has no teammates.
Mode name Cops n’ Crooks — cops and robbers. Player count: only 2 teams allowed. Rules: one team plays the gang, one team plays the cops. The cops can see the gang’s position on the GPS map, while the gang can’t see the cops. And the cops start the game riding in police cars.
There are two sub-modes:
ALL FOR ONE: When the game starts, one random member of the gang becomes the BOSS, marked with a star above his head, while everyone else is a circle. The team has to work together to protect the BOSS, and the cops’ goal is to kill the gang’s BOSS. The gang has to protect the BOSS until he reaches the designated spot and escapes by car. Everyone except the BOSS can respawn.
ONE FOR ALL: There’s no BOSS. The cops win by killing all the crooks or destroying the getaway vehicles. (Of course, only the dead can get into these two escape vehicles.) Players can’t respawn in this mode.
Mode name Turf War — turf war. Player count: 2-8 teams allowed. Victory condition: the team of players with the most money when the game ends wins.
Rules: Basically the same as the capture-the-turf modes in other games. There are several bases in different locations, and players need to go stand inside the ring for a certain amount of time; once the capture meter hits 100%, the turf is successfully captured (the more people, the less time it takes). A team that holds turf starts gaining money as time passes (the more turf you hold, the faster it adds up). Players can take back turf that the other side has captured.
You can’t capture turf while an opponent is near its ring — you have to kill the enemy first.
Co-op mode: all players in the game are on the same side …
Solo competition — win the match through your own efforts …
Racing — saves you from having to install Need for Speed …
PARTY mode: this mode is basically just going in and letting the host switch to any other mode at any time.
Reading the intro to multiplayer battles, I really can’t wait~
