[Repost] Apple Slaps Developers In The Face

This article is reprinted from http://theflashblog.com/?p=1888 [Adobe would like me to make it clear that the opinions below are not the official views of the company and are entirely my own.] By now you have surely heard about the new iPhone 4.0 SDK language that appears to make creating applications in any non-Apple-approved languages a violation of terms. Obviously Adobe is looking into this wording carefully so I will not comment any further until there is an official conclusion. [Sentence regarding Apple’s intentions redacted at request from Adobe]. This has nothing to do whatsoever with bringing the Flash player to Apple’s devices. That is a separate discussion entirely. What they are saying is that they won’t allow applications onto their marketplace solely because of what language was originally used to create them. This is a frightening move that has no rational defense other than wanting tyrannical control over developers and more importantly, wanting to use developers as pawns in their crusade against Adobe. This does not just affect Adobe but also other technologies like Unity3D.

With HTML5 here, flash won't get far?

Ever since news of HTML5 got out, the new waves have been pushing the old ones forward, and more and more people have started paying attention to HTML5. From last September until now, I’ve read quite a few articles arguing that Flash will be replaced by HTML5. Recently I came across another one, “With HTML5, How Much Farther Can Flash Go?”, and it struck a nerve: http://blog.csdn.net/cping1982/archive/2010/02/23/5321010.aspx Thanks to the author Pengling Sanqian for sharing these valuable thoughts — the article is well reasoned and well supported. Having read it, I’d like to add a few personal points. 1. Times Have Changed — Flash Won’t Necessarily Repeat Applet’s FateWhether Flash lives or dies depends on many factors, and there’s no need to compare it to Applet. The historical context and user demands have all changed, so the old lessons no longer apply. True, Flash’s shortcomings have always been there (not long ago, even the iPad — touted as offering the “best web experience” — stubbornly refused to install Flash because of performance issues, leaving many web pages unable to display fully). But whether a product is good or bad is only part of the odds of winning; operations, promotion, and user demand matter just as much. A bad product doesn’t necessarily fail to make money, and a good product doesn’t necessarily make money either — there’s a certain fate in it all, and whoever wins the hearts of users wins the world.

What you need to know about developing an RTMP server using FluorineFx

This article is a document translated specifically for my partner to read; since it might help some folks, I’m also posting it for reference by anyone who needs it. If it doesn’t fit your situation though, I can’t take responsibility. Also, this article was exported directly from Word (page size A3), with way too much redundant code, and I can’t be bothered to clean it up; brothers with a display resolution width below 1280 may see misaligned styling when reading, so please bear with it. Overview:The FluorineFx open source library provides a set of features for the .NET framework, implementing FLEX/FLASH remoting, Flex Data Services and real-time messaging. .NET frameworks supported by FluorineFxMicrosoft .NET Framework 1.1 (1.1.4322) Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (2.0.50727) Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (3.5.21022.8) Mono 1.2.4 (.NET framework support is backward compatible)
